A question from Apple Support Communities:
“Since upgrading to iOS 11 on my iPhone 7, the Weather app will occasionally show a "blank" temperature. It stops displaying information and shows the blue screen with the two dashes. The blank temperature also appears in Notification Center. Does anyone know how to fix that?”
Some users who updated to new iOS 11 find that iPhone Weather app not working: Weather apps shows a blank temperature or Weather app doesn’t show the up-to-date result etc. And the latest iOS 11.1 upgrade seems not to tackle the issue. But stay calm. In this guide, we will show you 5 ways to fix the iPhone Weather app not working after iOS 11/11.1 update.
You can set Weather app on iPhone to use WLAN or Cellular Data or both. If you only allow it to use WLAN when you are on Cellular data it will not show you the up-to-date weather results.
So to Settings on iPhone > Cellular > Find Weather app and check on WLAN & Cellular Data under ALLOW WEATHER TO USE DATA.
You should make sure that Weather app is allowed to use location services, or it won’t show the instant results when you are in a new place. You can find this setting in Settings > Privacy > Location. Tap the Weather app > Select “Always”.
Enabling background app refresh for Weather will allow it to refresh its content when on WLAN or Cellular in the background, so the Weather app will always show you instant results. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Set it to WLAN & Cellular Data > Find Weather app and enable it.
One thing to remind is that turning off background app refresh for other apps will help save battery life.
This is a simple way to try to fix Weather app not working issue on iOS 11 or iOS 11.1. Just power down your iPhone and restart it. Turn on Cellular or Wi-Fi, and check if the Weather app works.
Reset all settings on your iPhone will also fix some iOS problems like iPhone Weather issue and you can try. But you should remember that this would wipe the settings like Wi-Fi password on your iPhone. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
